Logica Telecommunications : Dublin,
Ireland : 9/99 to Present
Software Engineer & Test Team Lead
Responsible for customizing applications for clients using C on a UNIX platform. Work on larger scale project initiatives. Develop test suites using TCL, Perl and UNIX shell scripts as well as developing test tools for testing various protocols and application interfaces.
Architecture, design, coding, unit testing, integration test, and support for various projects including a prepaid gateway for text message systems, which allowed for rapid processing and notification of subscriber credit status. Developed a test rig that simulated the billing system that the prepaid module communicated with connected via TCP/IP. Testing was carried out using TCL scripts and a series of in house tools I developed to simulate traffic, credit and load conditions.
A client in Germany wanted to submit mobile originated messages over SMPP from the stack. This solution involved taking the message from the SS7 stack (HP Open call), wrapping it up as a SMPP message and submitting it to the SMSC (short message service centre). This involved ensuring that all SMPP protocol directives were being adhered to and translating the message from a GSM to a SMPP message before reaching the Kernel of the SMSC, while holding the GSM characteristics of the message (receipt phase etc.).
As Test team lead main duties included ensuring that human and machine resources were available to carry out required tasks. I designed test spec documents and suites of scripts and tools for the integration test phases of various projects.

and if changes were required, worked with developers to test the implemented
changes.
